Virtual Design Team

Virtual training makes sense. When you consider the see-saw of pros and cons, it is hard to get away from. Let’s take a register of all the ways we work today that have pushed virtual training to the front of the queue of development tools.

Virtual sanity

  • Remote working is on the rise
  • Companies are increasingly looking for environmentally friendly options
  • Change comes quickly, and training materials need to be adaptable and flexible
  • As budgets tighten, L&D needs to justify every penny in terms of asset creation
  • Busy schedules mean not everyone can be in one place at one time

Getting prepared

Virtual training solves many problems, but that does not mean that implementing a virtual solution is totally without its challenges. Creating a blended or even entirely virtual solution requires careful planning and consideration.

How does everyone handle video calling? How many different time zones do you need to consider for your global team?

These are the operational challenges but there are more questions that should be posed if you want to get the proper value out of a learning solution. And these are the things that a collaborative effort, with the help of a dedicated virtual design team, can help realise and cover.

Collaborating to succeed

A successful virtual training experience will take into account the things that might have been lost from a classroom session. For example - are you planning an ice breaker session? How are your learners going to break from routine and open their minds to new thoughts and ideas if they are sitting at their desk?

A good virtual design team will plan for this, creating engaging activities with the learner’s background in mind to reset their thinking.

A trainer that is new to this sort of teaching cannot be thrown into the deep end either. Virtual design teams can upskill trainers on all the tips and tricks they need to present content and engage learners.

Dive right in, or dip a toe?

If the virtual universe still seems daunting, there’s no need to worry. A virtual design team that knows what they’re doing will collaborate with you to determine to what extent your training should be delivered virtually. See some essential tools for virtual collaboration.

A 3-day seminar does not automatically translate to a 3-day online class. What a truly synergetic team will do is take your content apart, look at your particular organisation theory, and look at what value can be added by creating independent assets. Don’t pay for a classroom of people to sit in silence watching an interview - spend less money making it better, then send it out for them to watch as a lead in activity.
